Yang Xiaoji, a girl of the Dong ethnic minority, lives with her younger siblings and paraplegic grandmother in Wuji Village, deep in the mountains. Xiaoji's parents work in Shenzhen. It's almost Chinese New Year, and the township is holding a Dong song contest, in which Xiaoji won the first place in the primary school song contest.
