James Hastings

James is a London-based director who has been making films for 15 years. He has an instinctive ability to tell stories that emotionally resonate. For him, filmmaking is a way of seeing the world. He is drawn to stories about connection and vulnerability, creating films that feel both intimate and cinematic. The blend of classic sensibility and modern storytelling continues to define his work today. His award-winning short films include Wild Bear (2025) and Slightly Red Handed (2021), which have screened internationally at venues and festivals including BFI Southbank, IMAX London and Cannes Film Festival. He has shot on location in Iceland, directed west-end stars in numerous music videos and written/directed an original stage-musical. He has received a production grant from Kino London, was awarded 'best director' at Folkestone Festival and has had his work distributed by platforms such as Omeleto, Film Shortage, FILMD and Indie Crib.
