Babu Baral

​Babu Baral (born Ayub Akhtar; 1964 – April 16, 2011) was an iconic Pakistani stage actor, comedian, singer, director, and playwright. Widely regarded as a pioneer of modern commercial Punjabi theatre, he helped define the golden era of Pakistani stage comedy with his sharp improvisational wit, flawless timing, and world-class vocal mimicry. ​Beginning his career in 1982, Baral performed in over 1,000 stage plays over nearly three decades. He rose to legendary status as both an actor and playwright with hit productions like Shartiya Mithay, Topi Drama, Mr. Aflatoon, and Ashiqo Gham Na Karo. Known for blending rapid-fire comedy with musical parodies, he became a major box-office draw in Lahore and across the South Asian diaspora. He also made notable appearances in television and film, including Mujhe Chand Chahiye (2000). ​Baral passed away in Lahore in 2011 at age 47, leaving behind an enduring legacy that continues to inspire generations of Pakistani comedians.
