Anil Budha Magar

Anil Budha Magar is an independent filmmaker, writer, and journalist who focuses on capturing the socio-cultural and political narratives of Nepal’s remote mountain regions. He studied filmmaking at the International Film Academy. His work is recognized for its authentic portrayal of rural life and indigenous traditions, often bridging the gap between independent documentary storytelling and commercial cinema. His career started with the 2012 short film Lomba, which received multiple awards at international indigenous film festivals. He further established his reputation with the 2021 documentary Aagre: The Iron Digger, which explored the lives of traditional iron diggers and won the Best Documentary award in the Nepal Panorama category at the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival. In 2024, he successfully transitioned to mainstream cinema with the feature film Gharjwai, which was both a critical success and one of the highest-grossing films in Nepal for that year. He continues his commitment to documenting the unique heritage of his community.
