Filipe Barbosa

Filipe Barbosa is a filmmaker based in the eastern outskirts of São Paulo, Brazil. He holds a degree in Social Communication (Radio and Television) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). In 2018, he founded Cine Social Club, a traveling film collective in São Paulo’s East Zone dedicated to screening films and fostering discussions on issues that shape everyday life in the city's peripheral communities. He directed the short film Fluxo – O Filme (2024), which was officially selected for more than 30 film festivals in Brazil and abroad. He also directed Quase Trap, written by Fabio Rodrigo, which was presented at the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market in France and at The Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in Lagos, Nigeria. In addition, he wrote and directed the short films Passado & Presente (Past & Present) and Depois do 7 (After Seven), both currently premiering. His work is distinguished by its commitment to stories from Brazil’s urban peripheries, with a particular focus on Black youth and contemporary social realities. Filipe is also the founder of Fluxo das Relíquias, a collective dedicated to researching and preserving the memory of São Paulo’s funk culture. The collective produced an exhibition featured at the Cidade Tiradentes Cultural Training Center and the Itaim Paulista Cultural Center. Based on research into images produced within São Paulo’s funk scene between 2006 and 2014, the project was also presented during the 2025 Virada Cultural, the Circuito Funk SP, and the exhibition FUNK: A Cry of Boldness and Freedom at the Portuguese Language Museum between 2025 and 2026. In 2026, he founded RLK Filmes (Relikia Filmes), an independent production company based in São Paulo’s East Zone. The company is dedicated to creating audiovisual works that connect cinema, music, memory, and territory, transforming experiences from Brazil’s urban peripheries into powerful cinematic narratives.
