Jonah Howell

Jonah Howell (born 18th September, 2000) is a Melbourne (Naarm) based writer and director, specialising in genre filmmaking. His works cover themes such as guilt, identity and morality, through aesthetic frameworks of surrealism and formalism, and are influenced by directors such as David Lynch, Jonathan Glazer, Kaneto Shindo, Kiyoshi Kurosawa and Ingmar Bergman. His debut short film, 'Vermin', a creature feature about a young woman's descent into madness after trying to protect the rats in her house, premiered at the 2025 edition of Monster Fest. Jonah's next film, 'Rear View Mirror', the story of a young man who kills a pedestrian in his car and is then confronted by the victim's mother, is currently in post-production and set for a 2026 release.
