Mona Best was an Indian-born British music promoter and the founder of the Casbah Coffee Club in Liverpool, a venue that played a significant role in the early development of the Beatles. As the mother of original Beatles drummer Pete Best, she supported the band during their formative years, providing them with a place to perform and helping nurture Liverpool’s emerging rock and roll scene. Best became an important figure in the Merseybeat movement and is remembered for her contribution to the cultural history surrounding the Beatles’ rise.
